Portugal government expected to announce location of new airport today - report

LISBON (Thomson Financial) - The Portuguese government later today is expected to announce the exact location of the new Lisbon airport, Diario de Noticias reported, citing a source close to the process.
The paper said the government already has a report from state civil engineering laboratory LNEC, which analysed the government's two options -- Ota, on the northern side of the Tagus river and Alcochete, on the south bank.
Industry association reports have said the new airport could cost 6 bln eur if it is built on the south side of the Tagus, compared to 9 bln eur it would cost if it is put on the site in Ota, originally chosen by the government.
Sonae SGPS' soon-to-be-spun-off unit Sonae Capital SGPS is seen benefiting from construction of an airport in Alcochete as the Troia resort, one of its core tourism projects, is nearby.
Brisa - Autoestradas de Portugal SA, Mota Engil SGPS, Sacyr Vallehermoso SA unit Somague, Banco Comercial Portugues, Banco Espirito Santo and Portuguese state-owned bank Caixa Geral de Depositos are all said to be interested in bidding for the tenders to build and finance the airport.
